We can help you conserve water when it comes to your lawn! As a professional sprinkler installer, it is our objective to provide you with a sprinkler system that maximizes water efficiency. We accomplish this in two ways. First, we make a custom design for each sprinkler system that takes into consideration the specifics of that particular site, (for example, size, shape, slope, location, water pressure, wind, sun/shade.) Second, we use water-saving products in our installs. Third, we program your controller based on our design so that your entire lawn is watered efficiently.
We cannot guarantee water conservation because ultimately that is up to you. As the owner/operator of a sprinkler system, it is your responsibility to see that your sprinkler system does not waste water (e.g. over watering, improper watering programs, faulty/broken sprinklers.)
The optimum operating pressure of spray sprinklers is 30 psi. If the pressure is above this point, you see misting and fogging, which reduces spray efficiency, especially in windy and sunny conditions. Therefore, we install the Hunter Institution Spray body, which has a built in 30 psi pressure regulator. Additionally, this pressure regulator seconds as a flow restrictor, restricting flow by 70% should the nozzle be removed or damaged.
In and around Pullman, there are lots of hills and slopes where we have to install sprinkler systems. In these situations, we install check valves in our spray sprinklers. A check valve serves the purpose of holding back the water in the lateral lines uphill from the sprinkler head. This prevents the water from draining out and thus eliminates the need to refill the lateral pipes, every time the sprinkler system is run.
The MP Rotator is a revolutionary sprinkler that sets a new standard for water efficiency. It is a multi-stream rotor the size of a spray nozzle and covers a radius of 8'-30'. It fits our standard spray head body, transforming it into a high uniformity, low application rate sprinkler with matched precipitation. The MP Rotator's low application rate helps to significantly control runoff on our hilly terrain and clay soils. The multi-trajectory, wind-resistant, rotating streams provide unmatched uniformity and outstanding close-in watering, preventing the need for lengthened irrigation cycles to compensate for brown spots.
The nozzles on the Hunter PGP provide high uniformity and a low application rate for large areas (radius from 22'-50'). These nozzles produce large water droplets which are far less susceptible to wind and airborne evaporation.
The Hunter Pro-C controller features a Seasonal Adjust setting with dedicated + and - buttons. Simply by pushing one of two buttons, you can increase or decrease sprinkler watering time from between 10% and 150%. Thus, it is very easy for you to adjust you sprinkler system depending on the type of weather.
One of the most basic water-saving devices is the rain sensor. It serves the purpose of turning the sprinkler system off when it rains, thus eliminate needless watering. When things dry out, it automatically turns the sprinkler system on again.
We install these products to help you save water. However, if you are actually are going to conserve water, there are a few essential steps you should take to prevent the waste of water.
1. Use our Water Schedule and Use the Seasonal Adjust Feature as the Weather Changes
One of the most common problems is over watering.
It is very desirable to have a nice lush green lawn. However, when people schedule their sprinkler systems to run every day or even multiple times in a day, they are wasting water. Even during the summer, a lawn with a good sprinkler system will stay lush and green with watering twice a week (see our lawn care page for other factors).
Another reason for over watering is people's failure to adjust their sprinkler systems according to weather conditions. One of the obstacles here is that on many controllers, it can be time consuming to go into the schedule and adjust each station time up or down. However, we make it very simple for you by installing controllers where you can adjust the whole program via the Seasonal Adjust feature, simply by pushing the + or - button.
If you have us install a sprinkler system, I highly recommend that you Use our water schedule and Use the seasonal adjust feature on the controller to change the amount of water the lawn receives as the weather changes. For more information about scheduling your controller see the Tips on Scheduling Your Controller page.
2. Pay attention for any signs of misadjusted or damaged parts of your sprinkler system and give us a call if you suspect a problem.
Water if often wasted through broken, misadjusted or non-functional sprinkler heads. If such problems go unnoticed for a watering season, there can be a great deal of erosion damage to one's landscaping, and a lot of water is wasted. In order to avoid this waste, you need to pay attention for erosion, wet spots, etc. In addition, if the sprinkler runs at a time when you can watch it, you should check it occasionally to make sure it seems to be operating properly. If you think there may be a problem give us a call and we would be glad to check things out for you.
3. Another important factor is how you maintain your lawn. I recommend you fertilize your lawn at least three times a year and mow your lawn at three inches or higher.
Often times people want a nice lush green lawn, but they neglect to fertilize their lawn. When they increase their watering in an attempt to make their lawn green, they generally end up with a very wet, muddy, semi-green lawn. The solution is to fertilize your lawn three or four times a year with high quality fertilizer.
Another water waste is created when people cut their lawn short. A lawn that is cut short requires much more water to stay green over the summer than a lawn cut at three inches or higher. Therefore I recommend you mow your lawn at three inches or higher.
For more information about how to care for your lawn, see our Lawn Care page.
To help you conserve water, we offer maintenance and repair services for your sprinkler system.
We offer fall winterization services to keep your sprinkler system free of freeze damage.
We offer spring start up services, besides turning your main water valve on, we turn each station on, check for misadjusted or damaged sprinkler heads and leaks, and we make whatever repairs are necessary.
At any time during the watering season, we offer repair services, we can check your system out if you think there may be a problem, and make whatever repairs are necessary.
